At this point, I feel fairly confident that I could write a menu for an imaginary Tex-Mex restaurant that would match the menus of at least 30 or 40 businesses in Shreveport-Bossier. There are lots of Tex-Mex restaurants in Shreveport-Bossier, and some of them can seem interchangeable. Ramirez Mexican Restaurant (6715 Pines Rd., Ste. 108, Shreveport) is not one of those anonymous-feeling places. Yes, there are lots of fajita options, bacon-wrapped jumbo shrimp and other familiar menu items, but then there are also numerous menu items that I haven’t seen elsewhere. In addition, there’s a really friendly vibe; you get the feeling that, even though the restaurant only recently opened, most of the patrons are regulars.

Ramirez Mexican Restaurant is now open in the Huntington Park Shopping Center on Pines Road.

“Crazy Rice,” which comes in regular and deluxe versions ($12.99 and $14.99, respectively), is one of Ramirez Mexican Restaurant’s unique menu offerings. This dish sort of feels like a Mexican restaurant’s answer to a “Sweep the Kitchen” from Johnny’s Pizza House. Take all of the proteins and veggies that you’d expect to encounter in the kitchen of a popular Mexican restaurant, place those ingredients atop a bed of Spanish rice, and cover the whole thing in cheese sauce – that’s Crazy Rice. I had a lunch special version of the Crazy Rice Deluxe for $9.99 and enjoyed it very much.

I’m looking forward to going back and trying some of the other house specialties, namely the Queso Ramirez. About one in three tables during my recent visit appeared to be ordering the Queso Ramirez, which you can see on the restaurant’s Facebook page here.

Ramirez Mexican Restaurant is located in a space that was previously home to Becca’s Steak & Seafood. It’s hard to spot from Pines Road, but it’s there, next door to a Goodwill Store and Dragon Buffet. And it’s absolutely worth a visit if you’re seeking Mexican or Tex-Mex.
