Each year, the staff of the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau (publishers of this blog) produce a brochure called Eat Here: A Food Lover’s Guide to Shreveport-Bossier. This annual publication is a photo-filled, pocket-sized guide to popular local restaurants, favorite menu items, food trucks, food events and festivals, and more. You can download the 2018 edition of the Eat Here Guide here. Printed and digital editions of the 2019 guide will be released during 318 Restaurant Week, which is coming up, March 18-23.

Each edition of the guide features locals weighing in on their favorite places to eat as well as their go-to menu items. For this year’s edition of the guide, here’s what our local contributors picked:

“The type of down-home cooking that my grandmother and mother used to do is a dying art. I love that C&C Café is keeping the taste of this tradition alive and well. Their lunch specials are unbelievable.”
LaShina Mitchell, The Life of a Fabulous Nobody Blog

“You will never have a bad meal at Kí Mexico. I always know that whatever the occasion, I’ll walk out smiling and full.”
-Steven Knight, Prize Fest Organizer

“One of my favorite things to eat in Shreveport is a piping hot donut from Southern Maid Donuts at 4 p.m.! Southern Maid Donuts are the only product ever endorsed by Elvis, so they must be doing something right. Is it 4p.m. yet?”
-Winston Hall, Musician and Tour Guide

“Don’t sleep on Silver Star Grille. If you want to #treatyoself, get the warm mozzarella appetizer – steak cooked to perfection on a bed of mozzarella and breadsticks. I’m drooling just thinking about it!”
Jaya McSharma, Actor and Writer

Having never heard about the warm mozzarella appetizer at Silver Star Grille before discussing it with Mrs. McSharma, I ventured out to South Shreveport to take it for a test drive and snap a photo or two. Holy smokes, this thing is pretty delicious.

The warm mozzarella appetizer may be the most misleadingly named dish in any Shreveport restaurant. For starters, it’s enormous – definitely large enough to serve as a meal. There’s a layer of crispy-edged, broiled mozzarella at the bottom of the dish, which is topped with toasted bread sticks,  roasted cherry tomatoes, basil, balsamic reduction, and a blanket of Parmesan. Add-on the medallions of beef tenderloin, and you’ve got yourself a pretty great dish. At $24 with the tenderloin add-on, your wallet and stomach will both be convinced that a full meal was had.

Look for the 2019 edition of Eat Here: A Food Lover’s Guide to Shreveport-Bossier in March 2019.
