There’s so much fun stuff happening in the local restaurant community right now (Jan/Feb 2019), it’s crazy. Here are a few things that I’m really excited about:

Organizers of the Shreveport Stuffed Shrimp Festival have announced details of their inaugural event, which will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Eleven Events in Shreveport. In order to raise awareness of the upcoming event, the festival will host a Kick-Off Party at Great Raft Brewing at 5:30 p.m. on this Thursday, Jan. 24. The party is free to attend, and Eddie’s Restaurant will have their food truck on-site to sell their delicious stuffed shrimp to anyone who’d like a taste. Like the Shreveport Stuffed Shrimp Festival page on Facebook for more updates from this awesome new event. If you’re wondering why Shreveport would have a Stuffed Shrimp Festival, just watch our video!

P.S., I’m a member of the committee organizing this festival. If you’d like a vendor application to sell food, art, etc., just drop me a note at CJay@sbctb.org and I’ll get you a vendor application.

Lucky Palace Chinese Restaurant will again host their annual Chinese New Year celebration. Welcome the Year of the Pig in style at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10. There’ll be a traditional lion dance show and martial arts exhibit presented by Bellaire Wushu Academy of Bossier City, which will begin at 6 p.m. The Bellaire Wushu Academy team recently won big at the World Kung Fu Championships in Emeishan, China. Lucky Palace owner Kuan Lim says that there’ll also be a fantastic whole fish special for the evening, and the regular menu will be served, as well. Reservations are required and may be made by calling (318) 752-1888.

Lowder King Cakes recently opened for business at 4019 Fern Avenue in Shreveport, right next door to Marilynn’s Place. Not only do their king cakes look ah-MAZ-ing (I haven’t gotten to try one yet 😢), but the word is they’re going to be providing wholesale and retail artisan breads once they get past the Carnival season. That’s a big development in the local restaurant community, and it’s easy to imagine several restaurants in the immediate vicinity of Lowder King Cakes will take advantage of having freshly baked bread products within reach. Delicious Ki Mexico tortas, I’m looking at you.

318 Restaurant Week will return, March 18-23, and 20×49.com will begin publishing stories about all of the week’s special dining events and lunch offers soon. In the meantime, please consider signing up for the 318 Restaurant Week e-newsletter, which’ll also enter you in any giveaways that happen during the promotion. You can also keep up with 318 Restaurant Week on Facebook or Instagram.
