I Ate the Taco King Cake From El Bazar Mexicano #2…And It Was Glorious

If you and three friends can scrape together a grand total of thirty bucks, then I think you ought to meet up for a Taco King Cake from Shreveport’s El Bazaar Mexicano #2. To get right to the point, it is easily Shreveport-Bossier’s most Instagram-worthy menu item at the moment, and it’s just profoundly fun to eat with a group of friends.

The Taco King Cake consists of 20 mini-tacos with your choices of meat (my group enjoyed al pastor, barbacoa, carnitas, chicken, and carne asada) as well as loads of toppings like fresh cilantro, chopped onions, grilled onions, and a variety of salsas. The tacos are carefully arranged into the shape of a cake and decorated with beads, a paper crown, and more.

The tacos themselves are great, but what made this meal special to me was the fun of sitting down with a group of friends and absolutely demolishing 20 beautiful tacos. For dessert? Head over to the restaurant’s bin filled with absolutely beautiful pan dulces pastries, which are delivered weekly from Houston, TX, and pick out a couple. These little works of art are $1.29 apiece.

When the restaurant introduced the Taco King Cake in 2017 (we wrote about it here), it sort of broke the internet, generating thousands of shares from the original post on Facebook. It was, at the time, the only Taco King Cake in the world – or at least the only one that a Google search turned up. Over the last two years, EBM2 owners Julian Gutierrez and Kathy Rico have tweaked their approach to assembling the “cake,” and now they’ve got it down to an art. I ordered the taco king cake and 10 minutes later, there it was, in all of its splendor.

Currently, EBM2 is hosting a Taco King Cake giveaway on their Facebook page. If there’s a Taco King Cake outing in your future, there’s no need to order in advance; Taco King Cakes take about 10-15 minutes to prepare. Pick-up orders can be placed by calling the restaurant at (318) 688-6975.
