Looking for Cinco de Mayo plans? Shreveport-based travel and lifestyle blogger Jada Durden, of www.LovingThisLifeJada.com, will host the next installment of her Libations & Hip-Hop event series at Parish Taceaux and Artspace in downtown Shreveport at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018. During the event, guests will learn to prepare and enjoy five different tequila cocktails – and each of the cocktails will be paired with “a song, artist, or moment in hip hop.” There’ll also be a welcome drink (that’s six drinks total, so hail a Lyft or an Uber!) as well as a nacheaux and taceaux bar provided by Parish Taceaux.
Admission is $35 per person and tickets may be purchased here. Guests must be 21 or older. RSVP to the official Facebook event.

The first installment of Libations & Hip Hop, which was held during 318 Restaurant Week, sold out less than one day after tickets were placed on sale. Durden’s events are always a little rowdier than most local food and drink shindigs, and Libations & Hip-Hop events typically include hip hop music, spontaneous dance lessons, and more in addition to the food and drink. This installment of Libations & Hip Hop is presented in partnership with the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau and Shreveport-Bossier Attractions Association as a part of Be a Fan of Shreveport-Bossier Month.
“A great night for me is hanging out with my friends listening to R&B and hip hop, drinking, and having a little bit of food, so it made sense to just create an event that is practically what a night of hanging out with me entails,” Durden said.
As an example of a drink-and-song pairing, Durden says that she and Parish Taceaux will be pairing Lil Kim’s “Not Tonight (Ladies Night Remix)” with a cocktail called the Short Island Iced Tea (“It combines all of the ingredients of a Long Island Iced Tea minus the gin, hence Short Island”).
Hip hop-inspired attire is appreciated at all Libations & Hip Hop events, but not required. Durden says that the popular event series will continue, but believes that the next installment won’t take place until this fall. So, if you’re interested in a Cinco de Mayo party that’s equal parts boozy and Lil’ Boosie, grab tickets to this one.
