Each May, the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau (publisher of this blog!) organizes a month-long promotion called Be a Fan of Shreveport-Bossier. The program uses discounts, giveaways, and special events to motivate locals to get out and explore their own community, in hopes that locals will become better ambassadors for Shreveport-Bossier.

This year, we’re taking things a step further and turning over control of our official destination Instagram account, @SeeShreveportBossier, to a fun local. LaShina Mitchell, better known as the blogger behind The Life of a Fabulous Nobody, will be sharing her unique perspective on Shreveport-Bossier, May 1-31. LaShina, who is an engineer by trade, has been blogging since 2010. Her blog went dark for a while, but her passion for exploring Shreveport-Bossier was reawakened when she won passes to the Louisiana Food Prize festivities. Since then, she’s been posting regularly about food, cooking, fitness, the arts, and more.
“Initially, my blog was just a creative outlet,” LaShina said. “I tell people that I’m not a writer, I’m just someone who writes about her experiences. I’m not a photographer, I’m just a girl with a camera.”
LaShina plans to visit all of the attractions – like museums, gardens, and arts organizations – that have special offers for Be a Fan of Shreveport-Bossier Month. She’ll take her teenage daughter along for some of the stops, so that her daughter can see a new side of Shreveport-Bossier, as well.
“I used to buy into the rhetoric that there’s nothing to do in Shreveport,” she said. “But now, I know that’s not the case at all, and I want to show her first-hand that there are plenty of things to do here.”
She’s already planning visits to Gators and Friends Adventure Park (she’s working up the courage to zipline over the alligator pond) and Shreveport Aquarium. She’s also an aspiring gourmand (“My palate and I are growing together”), so expect to see plenty of food shots, as well.
