American Craft Beer Week is coming up, May 15-21, 2017, and Shreveport-Bossier’s breweries, bars, restaurants and other food and drink-related businesses are getting in on the action. To kick off 20×49.com’s coverage of ACBW events in Shreveport-Bossier, we’re giving away a pair of tickets to For the Love of Beer: A Celebration of Great Raft Brewing, a night of beer, food and conversation that’ll be held at Sainte Terre, 6:30-10 p.m., Tuesday, May 16. Tickets to the event are $75 each and may be purchased here.
To enter the giveaway: E-mail cjay@sbctb.org with the subject line “For the Love of Beer” by 12 p.m. on Friday, May 12. A winner will be selected at random and notified by 1 p.m. on Friday. You must be 21 years of age or older to enter this giveaway and your ID will be checked at the time that you claim your prize and also when you arrive at the event.

For the Love of Beer will feature a three-course meal and passed small plates prepared by Chef Holly Schreiber of Sainte Terre using meats and produce from nearby Mahaffey Farms. Each course will be paired with Great Raft Brewing beers. During dinner, Great Raft owners Andrew and Lindsay Nations will participate in a conversation led by the Southern Food and Beverage Museum‘s Jennie Merrill.
This is the first beer pairing dinner that Schreiber has prepared for a local audience. She’s clearly put a lot of thought into the menu (which you can see here), which was designed to complement the flavor profiles of the beers being served.
“A successful pairing menu makes both the food and the beverages taste completely different, in a way,” Schreiber said. “Each of the Great Raft beers complements certain flavors and certain spices. We’ve always wanted to do this meal, and the timing finally worked out.”
Great Raft Brewing’s Lindsay Nations echoed those sentiments.
“We’ve been talking about doing something like this for a very long time,” Nations said. “We’ve only previously done one beer pairing dinner in Shreveport, and that event was two years ago, so this is special to us.”
Nations also indicated that at least some of the dialogue over dinner will address the re-launch of Southern Drawl, a Great Raft Brewing flagship beer that recently underwent a recipe overhaul (there’s a GRB blog post about the changes here, for the curious).
Expect to see lots more coverage of American Craft Beer Week 2017 events here at 20×49.com; local breweries and businesses really are going all-in this year and there are lots of great-sounding events to cover.
