I’m going to go out on a limb, here – or the branch of a rose bush, at least – and say that there’s probably never been a better time to visit the Gardens of the American Rose Center (8877 Jefferson Paige Road, Shreveport) than right now. And by “right now,” I mean May 2017. Why is now such a great time? Because, in addition to the fact that the gardens are currently experiencing “peak bloom,” admission to the park is currently free and you’ll even be given a bunch of free, rose-themed goodies just for stopping by. It’s all part of this “Be a Fan of Shreveport-Bossier” offer that may only be redeemed, May 1-31, 2017.
“Visitors to the park who come out, mid-April to mid-May, are going to see most of our roses at their very best,” said Beth Smiley, publications director for the American Rose Society. “We have a great bloom out there this year. Mother nature is being kind to us right now.”
If the promise of a colorful, fragrant walk through the park isn’t enough to entice visitors, the American Rose Society is throwing in a free goodie bag containing a 2017 wall calendar, a rose garden guide and a free trial membership to the American Rose Society. Smiley described the free stuff as “just an added incentive to entice locals to come out and see what a gem we have here.”
To redeem the offer, simply follow the signs with red arrows to the second building (the administration building, located near visitor parking at the rear of the park). Even on the weekends, the admin building lobby is unlocked and goodie bags are available for pick-up on the honor system.
