Normally, posts on this blog have to do with interesting places to eat or fun things to do in Shreveport-Bossier. However, when my co-worker Teresa Micheels mentioned to me that she’d been tasked with recruiting nearly 1,000 volunteers for the upcoming Red River Balloon Rally and U.S. National Hot Air Balloon Championship, I thought it couldn’t hurt to pass the call for volunteers along to 20×49.com readers. Teresa, who is the volunteer manager for the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission, is leading the effort to recruit volunteers for balloon crews, scoring teams and other fun positions. Training will be provided for all volunteers and volunteers are needed for various time slots, July 14-19. To volunteer or for more info, contact Teresa at firstname.lastname@example.org.
“It’s something really different,” Teresa told me. “It’s really more of an adventure than your average volunteering situation. These hot air balloon pilots will be coming from all over the United States, and a lot of them will make friends with the volunteer crew members that they have here.”
If you’re interested in attending the Red River Balloon Rally as a spectator, there’s lots more info on how to do that on the rally website. A festival with tethered balloon rides, live music, kids zone activities and more will be held, July 15-17, on the campus of LSU Shreveport.
If you’d be interested in volunteering during the Red River Balloon Rally and U.S. National Hot Air Balloon Championship or would like to know more about volunteer duties, please contact Teresa at email@example.com.
