One of the aspects of Shreveport-Bossier that many locals rarely have the opportunity to experience is the quality of our local bed and breakfasts. One of those excellent B&Bs, 2439 Fairfield: A Bed & Breakfast, will host a Christmas Open House, 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015. There’ll be Christmas cookies, spiced tea and self-guided tours of every room in the Victorian-style home. Admission is free and the public is invited.

The best reason to visit 2439 Fairfield: A Bed & Breakfast isn’t the architecture of the gorgeous old home or even the free Christmas cookies, which I’m sure will be delicious. As someone who works in tourism and often hosts visitors to our area, I’m here to tell you: 2439 Fairfield may contain the highest per-square-foot concentration of Christmas decorations to be seen anywhere in Shreveport. According to innkeeper Jimmy Harris, there are more than 500 nutcrackers, 300 angels and 600 crystal icicles. There’s a 12-foot Christmas tree and more Santas than you can shake a candy cane at. If you can tour this entire building without some Christmas cheer rubbing off on you, you may just be the Grinch.
“I always helped my mom decorate for Christmas, and I just fell in love with it growing up,” Harris told me. “I just love Christmas.”
