There’s a lot of fun stuff taking place over the weekend of Independence Day in Shreveport-Bossier, including the huge Independents Day party at Great Raft Brewing. Independents Day is kind of several parties rolled into one, including a free concert featuring Hydrogen Child, Seratones and more, a cornhole tournament, a pop-up store by Day Old Blues Records and – last but not least – a cook-out by Bohemian Pork, the competition barbecue team made of of staffers from Cadre Hospitality Group–owned restaurants Wine Country Bistro and Zocolo.
Beginning at around 11:30 a.m., the Bohemian Pork crew will be serving all-you-can-eat ribs, brisket, jalapeno cheddar grits, beans, collards, potato salad and corn bread for $20 per person. Tickets to the cook-out can be purchased in advance online, here. This is the most affordable opportunity that the public has ever had to eat Bohemian Pork’s barbecue, which is the centerpiece of Wine Country Bistro’s higher-priced annual Wine & Swine party.
“These are the same ribs that we competed with at Hogs for the Cause in New Orleans,” Bohemian Pork head honcho Jason Brady told me, referring to the huge barbecue competition held annually in New Orleans’ City Park. “They’re St. Louis-style ribs. We came up with our own glaze that goes on right at the end. We’re gonna keep a buffet out from 11:30 a.m. or noon until the end of the day.”
The Brew-B-Q spread, as well as all activities at Great Raft Brewing, are for ages 21 and up only.
