“Louisiana Eats! with Poppy Tooker” is a popular radio show and podcast created by New Orleans-based author, chef and food personality Poppy Tooker. The show is broadcast on NPR affiliate networks throughout the South, and can be heard in the Shreveport area on Red River Radio, 89.9 FM, at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoons. This Sunday, June 21, “Louisiana Eats!” will broadcast a special, hour-long episode compiling segments they’ve run in the past year about Shreveport-Bossier farms, restaurants, food traditions and more. Businesses featured in the special will include Mahaffey Farms, Great Raft Brewing, Eddie’s Seafood and Soul Food Restaurant, Gullo’s Fresh Produce and Bake Shop, Highland Community Garden, LSU Ag Center and more. It’ll be an hour-long smörgåsbord of food talk from Shreveport-Bossier.
Poppy’s program is a big deal; she’s interviewed food superstars like Anthony Bourdain, David Chang and Marcus Samuelsson. The “Louisiana Eats!” team visited Shreveport-Bossier in May 2014, and are planning a return visit soon. As an occasional contributor to the show’s “roving reporter” segment, it’s been an honor to be along for the ride as “Louisiana Eats!” celebrated Shreveport-Bossier food. The special broadcast on June 21 is a great opportunity to see Shreveport-Bossier’s rapidly evolving food scene through the eyes of a veteran New Orleans food journalist.
The Shreveport-Bossier themed episode of “Louisiana Eats! with Poppy Tooker” will air at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 21 on Red River Radio. For more information on “Louisiana Eats!,” visit the show’s profile page at itsneworleans.com. You can also subscribe to the podcast in iTunes here.
