Since they became the new track operators of Thunder Road Raceway Park in Gilliam, Louisiana, Nelson and Marla Hoyos have introduced some fun changes to the place. One of the track’s new offerings, “The Ultimate Drag Racing Experience,” joins ziplining over alligators at Gators and Friends Alligator Park, flyboarding with Ark-La-Tex Flyboard and skydiving in northern Caddo Parish on the growing list of things that adrenaline junkies can enjoy in Shreveport-Bossier. For a fee of $125 per rider, the Thunder Road racing team will strap you into the 1,000-horsepower, two-seat Driven 2 Win dragster. A pro drag racing instructor will be behind the wheel, and whoever’s strapped into the passenger seat will get to experience the rush of accelerating from 0 to 100 miles per hour in three seconds. Participants must be at least 18 years of age. To book a ride, contact Thunder Road at (318) 299-RACE (7223).
“It’s unlike any other experience you’ve ever had,” Nelson Hoyos said. “We provide all of the safety equipment, there’s a small tutorial, and then we give you the experience of a lifetime.”
“The Ultimate Drag Racing Experience” has attracted the attention of The Travel Channel, who’ll film an episode of Trip Flip at Thunder Road Raceway Park on Friday, Feb. 13. Thunder Road Raceway Park also has a new website up, where they’ve posted their schedule of races, “test and tune” nights and other events.
