Still riding a wave of buzz generated by several recently announced music bookings – namely the Tedeschi Trucks Band (performing on Wednesday, April 1, 2015) and Dr. John and the Nite Trippers (Thursday, May 14, 2015) – the Strand Theatre got even more love from local music fans when word recently got out that progressive rock icons Primus will bring their Primus & The Chocolate Factory tour to Shreveport on Sunday, May 3 at 7 p.m. Primus, whose funky, heavy sound has always been difficult to label with a genre, have created a new album and tour that re-imagines the soundtrack to the 1971 film Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. Tickets to the Shreveport performance of Primus & The Chocolate Factory may be purchased now through the band’s website, and will be available on the Strand website soon.

Jenifer Hill, executive director of the Strand Theatre, seemed genuinely giddy about the upcoming string of live music bookings (which, she pointed out, are all rentals – they’re not part of the Strand’s season package).

“It’s awesome. We’re very excited,” Hill told me on Tuesday afternoon. “It gets a younger, funkier audience in the door. And I have to get you in the building to make you fall in love with the building. It’s a complete win for us.”

Tickets for Primus & The Chocolate Factory are $47-$57 each, plus applicable fees. The only place to get them, currently, is through the band’s website.

A brief side note: As home to noise-rock pioneers The Residents, Shreveport, Louisiana is arguably the historic birthplace of the kind of music performed by bands like Primus. Hopefully, someone’ll bring this to the band’s attention!
