Shreveport-Bossier’s food truck scene is growing so rapidly that it’s become difficult to keep tabs on the ever-changing list of mobile food vendors who are setting up shop. This Friday, June 28, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., a new event called Food Truck Fridays will debut in the parking lot of Collier’s Custom Classics at 2915 Youree Drive in Shreveport. Organized by the proprietor of Some Like it Hot, this food truck court will feature Some Like it Hot, River City Seafood, Salsitas Buenisimo, Jester’s Mobile Food Cart, Bayou Boyz and more. Adding excitement to what may be Shreveport-Bossier’s first real food truck event (aside from gatherings of mobile food vendors at parades or festivals) is the variety of foods available: seafood, burgers, tacos, tamales and more will be on sale at Friday’s event.
A few menu recommendations from this crowd would definitely include tacos from Salsitas Buenisimo, burgers from Some Like it Hot (see my 2012 review here) and Tina Palmisano’s unbelievable gourmet tamales from Jester’s Mobile Food Cart.
Salsitas serves traditional style tacos (meat, cilantro, onions) as well as American style tacos (meat, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes) stuffed with carne asada, chicken, al pastor pork, sausage, ground beef or vegetables. Tacos are sold three at a time and range from $5.99 to $7.25 for three. A Salsitas specialty is an enormous concoction called the Super Taco, which consists of three corn tortillas covered in steak, chicken, bacon, peppers and a small amount of cheese.
Under the name Jester’s Mobile Food Cart, Tina Palmisano uses real masa to create delicious tamales stuffed with crawfish, shrimp, pork tenderloin and more. As she recently told The Times in this fun article by Devin White, Palmisano is in the final stages of launching a tamale cart in downtown Shreveport.
While we’re talking food trucks, it’s also worth pointing out that the very cool-looking Po’ Boys and Rich Girls truck will be launching soon in Shreveport.
