This weekend the Shreveport-Bossier riverfront will be positively alive with activity. With a forecast of partly cloudy in the mid to high 80’s the setting will be perfect for this Red River watersport competition. The 2013 USA Wakeboard Collegiate Finals are being held all weekend.
More than 100 wakeboard riders from colleges and universities from across the country will descend upon Shreveport’s Riverview Park. Competing programs include: Wisconsin, Ball State, Virginia Tech, Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, Ole Miss, Miss St, Louisiana Monroe, La Tech, Texas Tech, Central Washington, Tennessee and others. Admission to the USA Wakeboard Finals is free to the public.
For those not entirely familiar with wakeboarding, it is a fast-paced, outdoor, surface watersport, which involves riding a wakeboard over the surface of a body of water at a high speed, while executing stunts without falling. Riders will strat runs around 9 a.m. Admission to the finals is free for spectators.
“It’s probably something a lot of people have not seen,” USA Wakeboard Past President John Zdeblick said. “Competitors are often jumping up and doing some incredible tricks that often make them look as though they’re actually flying.”
If you have never seen this sport in action then you would be in for a great surprise. If you blink you may miss something gasp worthy. Unfortunately there won’t be any instant replay when you show up live so save your blinks for later. Being the sports nut I am, I will not miss this event, oh and did I mention that it is free admission!
