Keith Sweat to croon the hits at the Strand Theatre

“Nobody could beg like Keith Sweat,” is a common refrain you hear among anyone who’s ever been a fan of late 80s/early 90s R&B music. Turn on any R&B station during that time and Sweat’s signature croon could be heard over many of the hit songs from that time, from “Make it Last Forever” to “Keep it Comin.’”

In fact, Sweat is largely credited with ushering in the New Jack Swing era with his hit single “I Want Her.” Of course, the 10-year-old I was back then didn’t know all of that when I was singing and dancing to his songs. I just knew his music always jammed. And if the success of his sold-out tours is any indication – it still does.

In fact, you can hear it live when he brings his Keith Sweat Live tour to the historic Strand Theatre next Friday, April 12. Sweat will be joined by opening act Mariah Roberson, who played the character of Young Doris in the 2010 film adaptation of the off-Broadway gospel stage musical, Mama I Want to Sing.

These days, you can regularly hear Sweat’s baritone voice doling out love advice nightly on his syndicated radio show The Sweat Hotel. But, for those wondering if he still has that familiar croon in tune, check out this 2012 performance of “Make it Last Forever” at a concert in Paris:

Tickets are $32 and $35. Call the Strand Theatre box office at (318) 226-8555 or visit online to purchase tickets.  Visit the Shreveport-Bossier Fun Guide for more information about upcoming concerts and events.
