Haven’t found a way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day yet? You might want to consider the Shamrock 2013 brought to you by Painting with a Twist on Saturday, March 16, 2 p.m., as a perfect way to ring in the spring season with fun, family and friends. The dual event is both a color 5k run/walk (skip, hop and everything in between) and a block party.
The run is not timed, making it a great way for anyone, from the casual athlete to the couch potato, to get active while getting splashed with color along the way. However, the block party will be going on simultaneously at Festival Plaza and it’s shaping up to be a serious St. Patty’s shindig. Expect great food from local vendors and bottomless green beer for the grown-ups. Then, there’s an adjacent non-alcoholic for the kids featuring fun activities presented by Party Central. The block party will also feature local community groups, artists and businesses showcasing everything from yoga to belly dancing.
“It’s a way to get people out in a family friendly environment and enjoy the best of what Shreveport-Bossier has to offer,” CoHabitat Executive Director John Grindley said.
The “piece de resistance” will be the live bands taking the stage which include The Pistoleros, Street Corner Press and The Good News, who are debuting at their first live performance. Still want to be as colorful as the runners and walkers, but not feeling particularly athletic? Then you will be glad to hear that you can get doused with color at the block party as well. Grindley describes it as a great way to get out and enjoy something good and unique about Shreveport-Bossier.
Admission for the event ranges from $5-$75 and for more information go to http://theshamrock.org/
