The Krewe of Barkus and Meoux’s annual pet parade returns Feb. 3

The Krewe of Barkus and Meoux Pet Parade returns to downtown Shreveport’s RiverView Park on Sunday, Feb. 3. For the fifteenth year running, the krewe known as “the animal krewe” will stage a parade of cleverly-costumed cats, dogs, bunnies, goats, ponies, chickens and just about any other animal that will stand still long enough to be fitted with a feather boa and comically-large sunglasses. The program of activities begins at 1:30 p.m., with contests like “Best Dressed,” “Pet-Owner Look-a-Like” and “Best Pet Float” being judged from 1:30-3 p.m. The 2013 Royal Court of Pets will be presented at 2:30 p.m., with the pet parade taking place at 3 p.m.

“Ultimately, the parade is part of our mission,” said Krewe of Barkus and Meoux Mission Captain Barbara Rice. “We’ll have multiple animal rescues with adoptable pets as well as pet education.”

Pet registration is $15 for the first pet, $10 for each additional pet through Feb. 1. After Feb. 1, the price increases to $20 for the first pet. There will be a parade-day registration table. If you’d like your pet to be entered into the 2013 Royalty Raffle, swing by the Petco on Youree Drive in Shreveport at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27. Raffle tickets are $1 each, with pet owners encouraged to “stuff the ballot box” to increase their pets’ chances of being named royalty. Lots more info is available here.
