Normally, the folks at Buttercups Cupcakes (6535 Youree Drive, Shreveport) only serve their king cake cupcakes on Tuesdays. Once Mardi Gras season arrives, however, the normal schedule goes out the window and these delicious little treats are available on a daily basis at a cost of $3 each. The cake tastes of cinnamon and vanilla, and is topped with a rich cream cheese frosting and sprinkles in the familiar Mardi Gras colors representing justice, faith and power. Buttercups Cupcakes’ owner Kim Wood made a name for herself long before she opened the shop, selling her creations at specialty grocery stores in Shreveport-Bossier as the cupcake craze spread like wildfire. National media exposure followed, courtesy of Buttercups being featured on Food Network’s Cupcake Wars. Buttercups’ red velvet cupcakes, their signature flavor, hold the title of “Best Red Velvet” from Cupcake Wars.
