Party like its the end of the world… or not

If the Mayans prediction is right and this Friday marks the end of the world, you might as well make it a party. If you’re in Shreveport-Bossier, here are a few suggestions:

Robin & the Bluebirds Celebrate “End of the World”

Don’t miss out on this benefit concert, featuring Robin & the Bluebirds with area favorites like Jerry Beach, Bruce Flett, Dirty Redd and more at Riverside Warehouse in downtown Shreveport. Proceeds and non-perishable food items will go toward the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana. Showtime is Admission is $5. Showtime starts at 9 p.m.

The Freak-Out! End of the World Double Feature

Who can resist an apocalypse-themed film or two while counting down the hours? Head to the Robinson Film Center for a double feature including Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, at 7 p.m. and Apocalypse Now, at 9:30 p.m. Plus, selected short film submissions from local filmmakers will be featured during intermission. Admission for the double feature is $10 for members, $12 for non-members. Admission is regular price for individual movies. Visit their website for more details.

Of course, if the Mayans are wrong and we all survive, that’s even more reason to celebrate. Keep the party going at some of these events:

“Uh Oh Ho!” Christmas Party

Get back into the holiday spirit with fast-rising “water pop” band, Super Water Sympathy, in town for their “Uh Oh Ho!” Christmas Party featuring musician Jacob Davis, at Chicky’s Boom Boom Room in downtown Shreveport. The band (pictured above in the main photo) will perform their newest single “Uh Oh!” Limited tickets are available, so don’t wait till the last minute. Tickets are $8 to $10. Showtime starts at 10 p.m.

Roaring 2012 Saturdays

Start your New Year’s countdown early with Roaring 2012 Saturdays at Chicago’s Hookah Room featuring Shreveport’s Queen of Soul Betty Lewis and funk/blues band Floyd Grigsby and the 5GK. Plus there’s a door prize – free admission to Chicago’s Speakeasy Shindig New Year’s Eve party. Door prize winners will be announced at midnight. Admission is $8. Showtime starts at 10 p.m.

Quickie Mart and Melodius Funk at Fatty Arbuckle’s

Celebrate the season New Orleans-style with DJ Quickie Mart, known for his official remixes for artists like bounce legend Ricky B., Slightly Stoopid, Freddie Gibbs and more. The night will also feature Shreveport funk/rock/jazz band Melodious Funk at Fatty Arbuckles in downtown Shreveport. Showtime starts at 10 p.m. Tickets are $5-$10.
