Texas Avenue Makers Fair Returns November 10

The Texas Avenue Makers Fair, a non-traditional arts and crafts fair, will return to downtown Shreveport’s historic Texas Avenue, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10. Organizers have published a vendor map listing 165 vendors, with 20 additional vendors planned in the event of good weather. In order to be sold at the event, items must be hand-made or hand-crafted. Admission is free and open to the public, and abundant free parking is available nearby.

This edition of the Texas Avenue Makers Fair will feature an expanded variety of food offerings, including local food trucks Some Like it Hot and Geauxsicles. Other food and drink vendors include Stir Tapas, Twine, Ki Mexico and Kern Has Coffee. Word has it that the event’s founding organizer, April Dahm, is planning some sort of surprise musical element to the event. It’d be hard to top the unbelievably spot-on Michael Jackson impersonator from 2011, but we’ll keep an open mind!

As a fan of the Makers Fair and an occasional vendor, I have to say that it is amazing how quickly this event has grown. The possibility of (weather permitting) nearly 200 vendors participating in an arts and crafts fair that is only two years old is exciting. While the event’s success is definitely a testament to the quality of work created by local makers and the passionate commitment of the volunteers and organizers who make the fair happen, I believe it also reflects the community’s desire to see Texas Avenue grow and thrive.
