The Sword to play at the Warehouse Friday night

If you love heavy metal, Riverside Warehouse is the place to be this Friday night, Nov. 2. That’s where you’ll find The Sword wielding its metal music power over Shreveport-Bossier fans when they take the stage in a one-of-a-kind show with Eagle Claw and Gypsyhawk.

The Austin, Texas band features original members guitarist John “J.D.” Cronise, guitarist Kyle Shutt and bassist Bryan Richie, as well as drummer Santiago “Jimmy” Vela III, who joined in 2011 following the departures of original member Trivett Wingo and temporary member Kevin Fender.

Since they formed in 2003, The Sword has frequently been compared to the iconic Black Sabbath and in his 2006 review of their debut album Age of Winters, allmusic writer Eduardo Rivadavia described them as being “at the forefront of … the ‘heritage’ or ‘retro metal’ movement.”  However, they cite a variety of musical influences that range from Sleep, Melvins and Slayer to Bob Seger, Kool & the Gang and Michael Jackson.

Catch them when they make a tour stop here to promote their latest album, Apocryphon, which was released on Oct. 22. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.

Check them out in this music video for the single “Lawless Lands” from their 2010 album, Warp Riders.
