The State Fair of Louisiana offers popular and quirky eats

The fair is in town again and if you’ve ever been to the State Fair of Louisiana, you know the thriller rides and eye-popping attractions aren’t the only factors that  make it such a Shreveport-Bossier fall tradition. It’s the food.

Of course there’s always the traditional fare – the good ol’ trusty corn dog, the mighty smoked turkey leg, the cloud-like cotton candy, the crispy and sweet funnel cake and the list goes on … Then, there’s the quirky and unusual, which is in no short supply this year like the Rocky Mountain oysters and deep-fried butter.

“Every year we bring new foods and try to mix things up with the attractions and rides to keep the fair fresh for everybody and I think it’s something that some people look forward to all year long,”  State Fair of Louisiana General Manager Chris Giordano said.

Here’s a few of those unique treats worth checking out while you’re there:

Bacon-Covered Caramel AppleIt’s the sweet and creamy goodness of a caramel apple topped with flecks of bacon.

Deep-Fried Watermelon

Yeah, it’s just what it sounds like – a batter-dipped slice of watermelon.

Donut Burger

It’s baaack. The hearty goodness of a ground beef patty sandwiched between the sweet, deep-fried pastry.

The State Fair of Louisiana is here through Nov. 11. (Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). Tickets are $10-$75. Visit the website for details on hours, admission and more.
