Popular Shreveport eatery Herby-K’s will host their Second Annual Block Party and Fundraiser, 2-6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28, according to co-owner Angela Busi Doe. The event will feature live music by Danny Wilder and the Bayou Gypsies, bounce castles and other entertainment for children and, of course, loads of great food provided by Herby-K’s. Admission is $25, with all profits benefiting PetSavers of Shreveport, a no-kill animal shelter whose mission is to rescue, protect and place abandoned or unwanted pets. Advance tickets are on sale at the restaurant, located at 1833 Pierre Avenue.

Last year, Doe and the team at Herby-K’s decided to host a block party in commemoration of the restaurant’s 75th year in business. More than 300 attended, and $3,000 was donated to PetSavers. When the restaurant was approached about the possibility of hosting the party again, Doe saw an opportunity to do something good for a deserving organization while giving the restaurant’s fans a reason to get together and celebrate.
The menu for the day will include Herby-K’s legendary open-face fried shrimp sandwich, the Shrimp Buster, as well as catfish, gumbo, po-boys and more. Beer will be available for purchase (it’s not included in the ticket price). Gourmet ice pops from Geauxsicles will also be available for purchase.
Editor’s Note: As a sort of “Easter Egg” for this blog post, the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau has two free tickets to the Herby-K’s Block Party – valued at $50 – for the first reader who e-mails me at cjay@sbctb.org with the subject “Herby-K’s.” I’ll notify the winner Thursday morning.
