Live music lineup: Kenny Wayne Shepherd, The Peekers, Dwight Yoakam and more

This week’s live music lineup includes a trailblazing southern rock band, a Grammy-nominated Shreveport native, a country music star and a reunion show by an area favorite. So check out who’s coming and get your dance card ready.

Lynyrd Skynyrd featuring Kenny Wayne Shepherd

For blues fans, Kenny Wayne Shepherd is the self-taught, critically-acclaimed, chart-topping blues guitarist who’s not only produced five studio albums, but has had the rare opportunity to play alongside blues greats like B.B. King, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Henry Townsend. For local folks, he’s the son of area-renowned radio personality Ken Shepherd, and the Shreveport native who made his debut performance at the Red River Revel Arts Festival while he was a student Caddo Magnet High School before launching into world stardom.

Either way, the five-time Grammy-nominated musician and singer/songwriter will be in town this weekend as part of the Lynyrd Skynyrd tour coming to CenturyLink Center in Bossier City on Friday night, Aug. 24.

Shreveport-Bossier is a haven for country music fans, especially when you can frequently see your favorites like pioneering country music singer and actor Dwight Yoakam. No stranger to the area, Yoakam is practically as known for his style – the pale, low-brim cowboy hat and jeans – as he is for his music, which includes classics like “Honky Tonk Man,” Streets of Bakersfield” with Buck Owns and “I Sang Dixie.”

Catch the Grammy Award-winning artist again on Friday night, Aug. 24, when he performs in concert at the Riverdome.

The Peekers Reunion Show With Gashcat and Engine

Before they disbanded, the six-piece retro indie band known as The Peekers comprised of Aubre Bauer, Jeremy Hayes, Brittney Maddox, John Martin, Michael Stephens and Jordan West, had garnered fans not just in their Shreveport hometown, but throughout the region with the 2007 release of the first album, Life in the Air.

For one time only, the Captain Shreve alums are coming together again this time to celebrate Hayes’ birthday with fellow bands Gashcat and Engine, 6-11 p.m. Saturday night, Aug. 25 at the Randle T. Moore Center.
