Greek Corner in Bossier City: A Family Affair

Once a drive-through food stand at the corner of Mansfield Road and Jewella Avenue in Shreveport, Greek Corner opened as a restaurant at 2153 Airline Drive in Bossier City in May of 2009. Since then, fans of Greek and Lebanese cuisine have braved this busy stretch of Airline Drive in search of fantastic Chicken Shawarma, Moussaka, Falafel, kabobs and more. Like so many international eateries in Shreveport-Bossier, it’s a family affair: the shop is literally run by a mom and pop. If I recall our conversation correctly, both are former residents of Metairie, La., whose family roots trace back to Beirut, Lebanon.

The food here has a handmade quality and occasionally tips its hat to Louisiana food culture in a fun way. Spanakopita appetizers ($4.99) are stuffed with feta cheese and fresh, whole spinach leaves. Olives are cured in-house, and may be purchased to-go in jelly jars with handwritten labels. Shrimp kabob sandwiches ($6.99) come out dressed as a po-boy with garlicky grilled shrimp, tomatoes and dill pickle slices wrapped in pita bread. A delicious garlic sauce sling-shots the already fragrant, tender Chicken Shawarma Platter ($13.99) into the stratosphere.

One of the best things about Greek Corner is the personal attention the owners pay to the food. Start a conversation about that fantastic garlic sauce or the dark green color of the Falafel (which is outstanding), and you’ll likely hear about the family traditions that went into the food.

Greek Corner is open Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.-8 p.m. They can be reached by phone at (318) 752-0066. “Like” them on Facebook here.
