Exhibit to showcase area filmmakers in “Remember Shreveport When”

Before you rush out to the theaters this weekend to see the latest blockbuster flick, consider making Saturday a movie day at the museum for the opening day of Friends of Louisiana State Exhibit Museum‘s latest installation of the ongoing Remember in Shreveport When exhibit, which runs through July 28.

This time go ‘round, they’re showcasing the works of some of Shreveport-Bossier’s most prized filmmakers, including the Oscar-winning animation short The Fantastic Flying Books of Morris Lessmore by Moonbot Studios’ Bill Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg.

The film commemorates the original 1918 silent film Tarzan of the Apes, which was shot in Morgan City, La. and will also be featured in the exhibit.

For those who may not know, Allison Bohl is renowned throughout the country for her award-winning work with fellow filmmaker Conni Castille in films like I Always do My Collars First and Raised on Rice and Gravy.

Fans are especially in for a treat when the duo presents the Shreveport debut of a couple of their latest works, including their first feature-length documentary, King Crawfish, an ode to the rich heritage of the annual Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival and the Catahoula crawfish farmers; and T-Galop: A Louisiana Horse Story, which offers a look into Louisiana’s traditional Creole cowboys, featuring Louisiana native and Kentucky Derby winner Calvin Borel.

Both filmmakers along with Al Bohl and Moonbot Studios staffers Joe Bluhm, John Durbin and Sara Hebert will be on hand to answer whatever questions you have. And if you’re wondering, yes, the Oscar Award will be there too.

Plus, Shreveport’s own Wampus Cats will keep the live music flowing from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

So let’s run through this again: a day of great movies and live music for the best price of all – free!
