Going to the movies is more than just sitting in a theater seat, munching on popcorn and staring at a big, wide screen when you visit the Robinson Film Center.
The independent film house not only brings some of the hottest indie films to Shreveport-Bossier, but they turn it into an entire experience with their fun, monthly themed nights and events and if you stop by there over the next couple of days, you may get a chance to join in .
Get ready for the flash, the drama, the music, the colorful costumes and the non-stop action that makes Moulin Rouge one of the hottest Oscar-nominated musicals out there. The Baz Lurhman film, starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, will be featured at this month’s The Freak-Out! event, a monthly showcase of modern classics and cult favorites. The fun starts at 10 p.m., Friday, June 22 and Saturday, June 23. And as part of any Freak-Out! goes, don’t expect to just sit quietly and look at the flick this time. This is the one time where outbursts are welcome – movie-goers are asked to enjoy a drink and belt out your favorite songs while watching it on the big screen. The film, rated PG-13, is only showing for two nights. Admission is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors, students and military.
Then, ladies, settle in for a night of great laughs, great food and lots of reminiscing on Tuesday night, June 26, for this month’s Heels and Reels feature, *When Harry Met Sally… the beloved, 1989 romantic comedy that had everybody saying, “I’ll have what she’s having.” Again, don’t expect to just sit and watch this one either. Heels and Reels, held on the final Tuesday of each month, turns a night at the movies into a girls’ night out with a meal, a cash bar with specialty drinks, trivia, door prizes and more, all for just $20 general admission and $17 for supporting cast members. Seating is limited to 85 people on a first-come, first-served basis.
*This film is rated R.
