The R. W. Norton Art Gallery is known in the Shreveport-Bossier community as one of the most picturesque spots in town in part because of its 40 acres of majestic, manicured gardens. Each year, Shreveport-Bossier residents anxiously await the arrival of thousands of magnificent azalea blooms at the Norton, creating an exquisite backdrop for portraits, picnics and family outings.
Well, folks, the time has come, and the botanical gardens are beginning to flourish with vibrant shades of green, pink and purple. This is the perfect time to visit “one of the South’s favorite haunts,” according to Southern Living. We agree.
While the gardens are more than noteworthy, the gallery itself contains a robust collection of paintings, sculptures and decorative arts that tell stories of four centuries past. Free admission and a friendly greeting as you enter the gallery all make for an enjoyable experience while absorbing works by Frederic Remington, Charles M. Russell, and other artists.
The Norton is open to the public 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. on weekends. Call (318)865-4201 for more information. Click here to stay up-to-date on upcoming events.
