What happens when you combine the words Japanese, action, comic, punk and music in one phrase? You get the bizarre, colorful, otherworldy elements of Peelander-Z.
Confused yet? Well, read a little further…
Peelander-Z was formed in 1998 in New York City with members, Peelander-Yellow, Peelander-Red, Peelander-Blue, and later, Peelander-Green who joined in 2008.
Still not getting it? Well, see, they say they’re all from the Z area on the planet Peelander.
Now it all makes sense, right?
Ok, yeah, on one hand Peelander-Z may come off as strangeness personified, but underneath all of that is a brand of punk rock so hot that they’ve played some of the country’s biggest music festivals including Bonnaroo, Voodoo Music Fest and SXSW and this weekend, they’re gracing area fans with their presence in a live concert on March 9 at the Media Star Entertainment Hall. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Of course, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they’ve also been featured on comedy series like VH1’s Best Week Ever, Comedy Central’s Upright Citizens Brigade, Spike TV’s MXC: Most Extreme Challenge and Anime Network.
And all of this comes out in their live performances, which are said to be filled with colorful costumes, audience participation and even… exercise. Better yet, just check out this video. Or this one. Or this one.
Peelander-Z will be joined by fellow classic rock, punk and metal trio, Electric Eel Shock.
You don’t want to miss out on this kind of fun. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. All ages are welcome.
