The new year is finally here and that means one thing in this area – it’s Mardi Gras time!
Whether you’re a first-timer or a Mardi Gras lover, the great news is that you don’t have to wait until the parades roll to get in on the action.
The fun starts this Saturday night, Jan. 7, with the Twelfth Night Party, an annual celebration hosted by the Krewe of Centaur and Krewe of Gemini. The party goes from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Bossier Civic Center.
Once upon a time I attended a Twelfth Night party during my news reporter days, (err… umm… solely for work purposes!) and let me tell you, these folks know how to have a good time!
The cool thing about the Twelfth Night Party is that it’s open to the public and it kind of gives you a preview of what to expect for the season because all of the krewes are there and each one of them presents their royal court. And as frou-frou as that may sound to some, it’s actually a pretty casual affair.

Even if you’re not really into the whole Mardi Gras thing, (Umm, you might want to consider taking a two-month vacation.) there’s plenty of the other aspects to enjoy, like the music and libations, which includes an open bar and live music by Texas-based classic rock quintet, Take 2.
So if you’re looking for fun this weekend, consider putting the Twelfth Night Party on your schedule and kick off Carnival season with a bang.
