With Christmas days away, many of us are busier than ever traveling to be with loved ones and shopping for last minute gifts. This time of year, through all of the hectic and joyful holiday planning, so many of us are inspired to give back. This week two downtown charity organizations have incredible opportunities for us to take on some of those generous characteristics we love about a certain jolly old elf.
The Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission is hosting a Birthday Party 4 Jesus-Open House today, Thursday, Dec. 22 from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. This event is an eye-opening experience as the public is invited to walk through the Mission’s downtown building located at 901 McNeil Street in Shreveport. Buttercups cupcakes will provide refreshments and activities are planned for visitors. If you would like to bring a gift check out their needs list here, and ‘Like’ their Facebook page to stay up to date.
The Providence House of Shreveport is another downtown goodwill organization housing the homeless and domestic violence victims. Christmas is an especially busy time as the organization has been accepting donations and gifts in droves this year. If you would like to give back to kids at the Providence House this year it might be fun to think outside the toy box. “Tickets or gift certificates for activities outside of the center are great for the kids this time of year.” said Sarah Causey, director of public relations and volunteer services. Places like Holiday Lanes, Sci-Port and Artspace offer tickets and gift certificates for great kid-friendly activities. To follow the Providence House and stay up to date ‘Like’ their Facebook page.
