Performances bring holiday cheer to downtown Shreveport

This weekend is bursting with festive holiday performances in downtown Shreveport starting with a free sneak preview of “It’s a Wonderful Life” a performance at the Emmett Hook Center at First United Methodist Church. Tonight, Thursday, Dec. 8 stop by 550 Common Street at 7:30 p.m. and enjoy a dress rehearsal of the Christmas favorite. If your calendar is already booked you’ll have opportunities to see the performance on Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. as well as Sunday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. Tickets range from $12-$22. If you’re looking for a little Tony Award winning action this weekend, The Subject Was Roses featuring Donna McKechnie will open at Riverview Theatre, located at 601 Clyde Fant Parkway at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 9. The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play focuses on a young veteran returning from WWII adjusting to life and a new normal. Encore performances are set for Saturday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. Click here for additional information.

Lastly, for this performing arts appreciation weekend, Holiday on Broadway will grace the stage of the Strand Theatre on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. If you’re a hard core Christmas-lover this is a great time to treat your yuletide cravings for holiday music.
