It’s time to turn on the Christmas lights in Shreveport-Bossier with the official holiday kick-off event this Thursday, Nov. 17 at the Louisiana Boardwalk. The Christmas Tree Lighting Event will take place at the main entrance in front of the parking garage starting at 6 p.m. with live entertainment by River Cities Jubilee, Fairfield Elementary School dancers, and the Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Choir Bell Ringers. This year’s event will also feature a special performance by Matthew Davidson, a popular local 13-year-old singing sensation.
As part of the Holiday Trail of Lights, Shreveport-Bossier hosts one of the first of many lighting events across the eight city-five region trail throughout north and central Louisiana. There is no better time to get into the Christmas spirit, and what better way than by celebrating the season with holiday classics, performances by area groups and lighting a 40-foot Christmas tree with old Saint Nick himself. The first 500 kids will receive a free gift, so come early and enjoy hot chocolate and other holiday treats. It’s not expected to freeze this weekend, but I presume snow will be in the forecast this Thursday evening in Shreveport-Bossier.
The Louisiana Boardwalk, a retail and entertainment lifestyle center offering shops, restaurants, a movie theatre, carousel and trolley, hosts this family-friendly community event each year.
