Sevendipity Cafe, located at 420 Marshall Street in the building that formerly housed Theo’s Cafe, is a new addition to downtown Shreveport’s breakfast and lunch offerings. While the look of the place hasn’t changed a great deal, the menu couldn’t possibly be more different from those of the “greasy spoon”-style diners that have previously occupied the space. Goodbye, beef tips and rice. Hello, Thai beef wraps.
In the morning, they serve fresh-baked sausage kolaches that come with a side of Tzatziki for $3. For lunch, offerings range from fresh salads and wraps to burgers, sandwiches and daily specials created using recipes submitted by some of their regular customers. I’d heard great things about the Tex-Mex burger, but decided to try the Sloppy Joe (around $8.00) because it’s served on house-made grilled sourdough and topped with fried onion straws, roasted red peppers, and Provolone cheese. This thing was so good, it made me want to sing the Adam Sandler “Sloppy Joe” song.
My dining partner had the Watermelon Pork Lettuce Wraps ($8.00), which featured chunks of grilled pork served with a sort of watermelon chutney. They were extremely light, refreshing, and nothing that I’d expected to encounter in a downtown diner. The whole menu is interesting, refreshing, and full of surprises. A cute couple runs the place, doing everything from taking orders to clearing off tables, but in my three trips, I’ve always gotten in and out within an hour.
Sevendipity Cafe is open M-F, 6:30 a.m.-2 p.m. They can be reached by calling (318) 220-7201. Atmosphere is uber-casual. Parking can be limited on their block. Find them on Facebook.
I was blown away by the Thai beef salad – Extremely tasty marinated beef with surprises all in the salad. I love the fact that they only serve the bread they make every day!!
Yay for downtown dining!
The bread is indeed awesome, Annie. I’ve had three meals there and my favorite actually didn’t make the blog post – the house chef salad is RIDICULOUS. Such a simple salad, but they get it *so right*.
