Two exhibits opening simultaneously at artspace in downtown Shreveport will explore the work of Academy Award-winning animation studio Moonbot Studios. Both exhibits, Phases: A Moonbot Retrospective and The Art Side of the Moon, will open with a free 5:30 p.m. reception on Friday, May 20 and run ’til August 13. During the course of these exhibits, artspace will also host appearances by bonafide animation superstars Ralph Eggleston (Pixar Animation Studios, Wall-E, Inside Out, Monsters, Inc.), Joy Ang (Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Marvel) and Bruce Smith (Disney, Tarzan, The Princess and the Frog) as well as a panel discussion on June 23, a “Drink n’ Draw with Moonbot Studios” on June 2, and more. Tickets are now on sale for the animation workshops with Ralph Eggleston, Joy Ang and Bruce Smith and can be purchased online here.
The exhibits – and the huge number of special events and programs surrounding them – basically add up to an incredible summer filled with opportunities for animation fans, aspiring animators and the art-loving public in general. Handy places to keep up with the many elements of these exhibits are on the artspace website’s events page and the artspace Facebook page.
Phases will provide a behind-the-scenes look at five years’ worth of Moonbot Studios productions, including never-before-seen concept art as well as Moonbot films on the big screen and interactive displays showcasing Moonbot apps. Art Side of the Moon will showcase the personal work of more than 20 Moonbot Studios artists. Combined, the exhibits will pull back the curtain and allow visitors to glimpse the inner workings – and the incredible talent pool – of an award-winning animation house based right here in Shreveport.
