Dance with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band

April 4, 2012adminDowntown, Entertainment, Featured, MusicNo Comments

No matter where you go, the sound of a big brass band always lets you know you’re back in Louisiana.

So whether you’re headed this way for Easter or just looking for some Good Friday entertainment, head over to the Red River District and get your Second Line on with New Orleans’ legendary Dirty Dozen Brass Band.

Showtime is 11 p.m. Friday night, April 6 at Fatty Arbuckles. Admission is $10-$15.

The band, founded in the early 1970s, is largely credited with revolutionizing the New Orleans brass band sound by merging funk and bebop with traditional New Orleans style, blazing a new path for the brass bands that came after them.

Since then, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band has recorded countless albums and their infectious sound has taken them to music festivals all over the world, including the Groningen Festival in the Netherlands and the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.

During their more than three-decade career, they’ve performed with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie, Dr. John and Branford Marsalis to Elvis Costello, Norah Jones and The Black Crowes.

Never heard of ’em? Well, here’s what you’re in store for:
